NORTHWEST FIRE DISTRICT RECEIVES GRANT FROM
GARY SINISE FOUNDATION FOR LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT
MARCH 23, 2020 (Tucson, Arizona) – Northwest Fire District has been notified that a grant has been received from the Gary Sinise Foundation that will provide important disinfecting and decontamination tools for use in large areas such as ambulances, fire trucks and fire stations, to help the district’s first responders prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. This equipment will ensure that harmful bacteria can be eliminated on a much greater scale than previously available. Due to manufacturing restraints, the two pieces of equipment are expected to arrive in approximately 5-7 weeks.
“Northwest Fire District cannot express enough gratitude to the Gary Sinise Foundation for providing life-saving equipment to our organization during these unprecedented times. Not only will this equipment help our crews and our community, it will also help to alleviate concerns that our crews may have of bringing infectious diseases into their homes and families,” Assistant Chief of Operations, Michael Duncan said.
The grant issued to Northwest Fire District from the Gary Sinise Foundation is a part of the Foundation’s First Responder Outreach grants, now being made available to first responders nationwide in need of personal protective equipment and gear when answering coronavirus-related service calls.
“First Responders face unique challenges because of the nature of the setting, enclosed space during transport, and frequent need for rapid medical decision-making. We are staunchly committed to standing with our first responders and those indispensable to the safety of our nation,” said retired Air Force Gen. Robin Rand, Chief Executive Officer of the Gary Sinise Foundation.
“Part of our mission at the Gary Sinise Foundation is to serve and fiercely protect those who so courageously defend and protect our nation,” said Rand.
“To that end, it is of the utmost importance to prioritize the health and safety of our nation’s first responders, their families, and the public at large.”
