Training Philosophy
We believe that the best training is: hands-on, realistic, safe, stressful, planned, documented, reaches all learning styles, leads to changes in behavior, leads toward mastery, includes good evaluation, is sequential, relates to our mission, is fun and meaningful, inspires, and is collaborative.
Our “Training Pillars” are:
- Focus on basic hands-on firefighting skills, using multiple repetitions under realistic and stressful training sessions.
- Focus on prop-dependent, high-risk, low-frequency training evolutions.
- Use a variety of teaching and instructional techniques and multiple learning platforms to meet diverse learning styles.
- Use lesson plans with clearly defined objectives that reinforce existing SOPs and are standards-based. Include an after action review in each lesson plan.
- Seek and establish training relationships with neighboring fire departments, public safety agencies, and colleges.
- Decentralize training as much as possible.
- Provide high-fidelity tactical simulations as much as possible.
