Northwest Fire District Babysitter Program

This class is designed to familiarize students with the basic knowledge and skills to safely care for infants and children. Our goal is to teach our students to be the best babysitter on the block! It is our aim that our students will gain confidence to make smart decisions and stay safe in any babysitting situation.

Keeping convenience in mind for our community members, we are offering the course at two locations this summer. The Northwest Fire District Training Center is located at 5125 W. Camino De Fuego, and the Northwest Fire Administration Complex is located at 13535 N. Marana Main Street. Please be sure to check the location prior to registering for your date.

Once you register for the course, a member of the Public Education Team will reach out to you via email for online payment prior to the program.

PLEASE NOTE – STUDENTS MUST BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 12-15 TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS COURSE.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • Supervising children and infants
  • Performing basic childcare skills such as diapering and feeding
  • Handle bedtime and discipline issues
  • Fire, personal and kitchen safety awareness
  • Basic First Aid
  • Infant, Child, and Adult CPR*
  • Communicating effectively with parents
  • Ethical and business principles of babysitting
  • Ages & stages of development
  • Age-appropriate activities

*Participants will receive Applied Resuscitation Education & Specialized Training (AREST) Prehospital CPR training, and will receive an AREST CPR certification card valid for 2 years.

The fee for this 2-day course is $45.00 per student. Payment is required to register.

Please have each student bring the following items:

  • Writing materials
  • A sack lunch
  • Something to drink

Dress code

  • No open-toed shoes
  • Students are expected to follow local school district dress code

If there is a question as to whether or not a student’s apparel is appropriate for class, instructors will decide.
